Emily's Good Things To Eat

Emily Reilly, Owner

Santa Cruz

Emily's Good Things To Eat initially began two decades ago when Emily Reilly, a single mom, began taking extra cookies she made for her children up to school and leaving a basket in the lounge with a note that read, "25 cents. Please don't rip off the cookies or the money because I won't be able to afford to make any more." "I did it all year and learned that trusting people really pays off," says Emily Reilly, "because throughout that year nothing was ever stolen."

Located in the same building at 1129 Mission Street since 1982, Emily's has been a solid community business from the beginning. These days, Emily's has weathered the Mission Street widening project by expanding the bakery through a SCCCU business loan. The loan helped purchase new equipment and also financed the start up aspects of catering business lunches. Headed up by Melanie Molina, this new effort to cater business lunches has allowed Emily's to reach out to those in the community who might find it difficult to come to the bakery during the widening project.

Emily Reilly not only provides the community with good things to eat but she also serves on the Santa Cruz City Council, the Board of Directors of the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District and the Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors' Council.
