Mary and Arnold Ortega have been operating their tanning salon, Mirror Vanity, (formerly known as The Tanning Company) in Watsonville for over 8 years, providing knowledgeable services and a relaxing environment to her clients. The salon offers private tanning rooms, manicures, hair styling, massages and bathing and tanning products. The Ortegas moved their business into a new location, 1428 Freedom Boulevard in the Crestview Shopping Center, because they needed to expand the business to serve their clients better. The new location has allowed the Ortegas to offer more services, new, state-of-the-art equipment and there's plenty of parking.

"The Credit Union gave us the special attention we needed, which was essential because of our unique situation. We ended up leasing a space that needed a lot of costly renovation, so without the help of the Credit Union, I couldn't have made the necessary changes," says Mary Ortega. The Ortegas received a Watsonville Business Booster loan through the Credit Union, which she used to completely renovate the space and expand the business. The Business Booster loans are guaranteed through the City of Watsonville Booster Loan Fund, a fund set up to specifically help Watsonville businesses obtain credit by providing loan guarantees to lenders for transactions that do not meet traditional banking standards.
