Under the direction of the CFO, the Account II maintains the Credit Union's general ledger accounts by accurately recording the Credit Union’s business transactions to and timely performing reconciliations of general ledger accounts within given time frames. Completes tasks necessary to balance and update the general ledgers and their subsidiary accounts. Prepares and publishes assigned financial reports to managements. Additionally, periodically prepares and files governmental reporting as appropriately. Insures the accounting records follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Credit Union’s accounting guidelines.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

It is the responsibility of every Credit Union employee to deliver outstanding service to members, the internal team, and the community.  The Accountant II is required to represent the Credit Union in a professional and friendly manner at all times, both internally and externally and within the community.  In addition, the following duties are assigned and expected:

  • Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various GL accounts.
  • Maintain all assigned GL accounts such that they are always in balance and current.
  • Reconcile the Corporate Credit Union and cash GL accounts daily.
  • Perform all month‑end activities/entries, including reconciliation of assigned GL accounts.
  • Prepare and submit all assigned GL accounts reconciliation within 15 days of each month.
  • Perform and/or support a variety of duties related to the accounting function, such as A/P, risk management, financial reporting, and record keeping as assigned.
  • Manage the accounts payable, fixed asset & prepaid processes, including entering bills, obtaining necessary management approvals and printing and mailing checks for vendors.
  • Analyze the Credit Union’s accounting data and develop recommendations on cost reductions and efficiencies.
  • Prepare and file government agency reports, such as County, State, and Federal, as assigned.
  • Assist in preparation of the NCUA 5300 Call Report.
  • Prepare and publish daily and monthly financial reports to management, as assigned.
  • Process and reconcile daily official check settlement, stop payments and requests for check copies and reconcile the corresponding GL account.
  • Reconcile institution’s ATM General ledger against corporate settlement in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinate and communicate accounting matters with other departments and branches as appropriate.
  • Function as backup to Finance/Accounting team members when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

  • Maintain all assigned GL accounts such that they are always in balance and current.
  • Produce all management reports within prescribed time frames and with free of errors.
  • Perform all month‑end activities, including balancing accounts and support producing of financial statements within 5 business days in the month-end process.
  • Provide informed, professional assistance to others in the Credit Union regarding accounting and finance.
  • Perform reconciliation duties within the given time frame with free of errors.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

  • BS/BA in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration required. 
  • Two to five years of similar or related experience, preferably in the credit union industry, is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, work ethics, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Analytical skills to gather, compile, and identify issues and/or opportunities to improve process.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changes and ability to prioritize accordingly.
  • Strong organizational abilities and a skill set to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Strong ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all nonpublic private information obtained through role at the Credit Union.
  • Familiarity with general office procedures, filing systems, equipment, computer and standard software programs (word processing, spreadsheets and fiscal) are all required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate with management effectively.
  • Computer skills to effectively use automated data processing systems (i.e. XP2) and accounting software programs (i.e. Wisdom).

Other Requirements:

  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the Credit Unions policies and procedures as well as regulations and compliance issues both state and federal.
  • Required to attend or participate in necessary compliance training. Adheres to Credit Unions service standards, core values, mission and strategic directives. 
  • Ability to identify continuous learning and career development opportunities.

  • Must be bondable.

  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
